Passion, Plan and Profit by Christy Strauch

Posted by litekepr on February 13, 2010

Having your own business is said to be a part of the “American Dream”. Even in these tough economic times, many people are still working toward having their own business. Actually, I’ve read that a financial recession can be the perfect time to lose a fortune — but also the perfect time to make a fortune. So, is this the time for you to get serious about starting your own business?

I wanted my own business for years and started it about 10 years ago. But for years before and after that, I ran businesses for other people and learned something new on each and every job I had. Finally about 4 years ago I had the opportunity to focus on my business fulltime and I haven’t looked back. This background and experience has been invaluable to me and I know there are many people out there who would like to have their own business.

The thing about my business is that I love what I do — the creative outlet, the ability to help others grow their business and seeing the results we get – all make this something I love to do. Having a business of my own that I love is not something I take for granted and there are many other people who would like to have the same opportunity. That is what Passion, Plan and Profit by Christy Strauch is about.

In the beginning of this book you will find sections that include: Read This Before You Begin, Caution, How to Use This Book, etc. I like to include these sort of sections to lay the groundwork in my non fiction books – be sure you read all of these sections. Then we move on to the heart of the book.

Section One – Why Are You In Business (Purpose, Vision, Mission and Value)

Section Two – How Are You In Business (Target Market, Strategies, Unique Selling Proposition, Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities and Threats)

Section Three – (Income, Expenses, Key Measurements)

Section Four – (Clarity)

Strauch covers so many great topics that all business owners or people who want to be business owners need to understand. But she doesn’t stop there. In the back of the book you will find a business plan template, a checklist to track your progress, resources, the Footwork Calculator and Business Plan Review Processes – including monthly and quarterly reviews.

There are so many topics that business owners need to manage. All the sections of this book are valuable, but I was really impressed with the “Numbers” section. Not only does she explain the incomes and expenses, but she also included directions to help you estimate these numbers properly. Getting these estimates is critical to the success of any business and need to be calculated to complete a thorough business plan and to secure sufficient financing.

Another thing that I really like is that Strauch included a number of worksheets in the book. I love non fiction books that provide ways for the reader to interact and utilize the information. This book is highly recommended for people who want to start a business and especially people who want to start a business that incorporates something they love.

GirlForce by Nikki Goldstein

Posted by litekepr on November 20, 2009

This book is called “A Girl’s Guide to the Body and Soul”. I really like that. I think all women remember those tough teenage years when we struggled with the changes of our bodies, dealing with hormones, moods, boys, school and so many other confusing and difficult things. I would’ve loved to have something that helped me think that I wasn’t crazy :)

Nikki Goldstein has put together a great guide for teens and she has wonderful information on one of her websites for the mothers of teen girls. I have a feeling my mother would’ve appreciated that information when I was a teen. We were both at a loss about how to deal with so many things that happened during those years.

This is the table of contents to give you an idea of what Goldstein covers in this book –

Chapter One – Who Are You?

Chapter Two – Create Your Own GirlForce Body Type Balancing Plan

Chapter Three – Eat Right for Your Body Type

Chapter Four – DIY Body Blast

Chapter Five – Celebrate Your Unique Beauty

Chapter Six – The Lowdown on Stress

Chapter Seven – Get In Touch With Your Inner Self

Chapter Eight – Talking about Relationships

Chapter Nine – Get it Together

Chapter Ten – Your GirlForce Questions Answered

I couldn’t find a topic that isn’t covered in this book. In addition to the invaluable information that helps teen girls – this book is gorgeous. The pages are all colorful, the illustrations are wonderful and you will simply love the appearance. There are various quizzes in the book to help teen girls determine their body type, and much more. Once you find your type — there is a wealth of information to help understand many other elements of your life.

I think any teen girl, any mother of a teen girl, any pre teen and any other family or friend who supports a teen or pre teen needs to read this book.

In June we did a virtual blog tour for GirlForce and we offered all blog hosts a wealth of information to post on their blogs. If you would like to take a peek inside this book, visit this summary page and you can take a look at a big list of ideas – http://virtualblogtour.ning.com/group/girlforce/forum/topics/download-page-for-girlforce-by

Book Promo 101: Learn the Basics of Book Promotion by Nikki Leigh

Posted by litekepr on October 29, 2008

This review was done for one of my book by Lillian Brummet. Her details are at the bottom of the review.

Book Promo 101: Learn the Basics of Book Promotion

Only a small part of a writer’s career, no matter what genre they focus on, is the act of writing – most of the writer’s schedule is filled with record keeping, office work and marketing. The first year after a book is published is often referred to as the “honeymoon period” because this is when the authors direct contacts have been exhausted. Typically, sales drop off and the author becomes disenchanted with the thought of facing more promotion activities for a seemingly “dead” book. Sadly there are only a few in the industry that seem to understand that a marketing plan should last the life of the contract for that book, sometimes longer.

Nikki Leigh has graciously put together a series entitled Book Promo 101 and the first book of this series has just been released. This first installment is an overview of the basic process and tools that are involved in book promotion activities. The author will go into each of these tools in more detail in the upcoming books in this series. This is a great way to have a brief understanding of what each of these tools are, why they are employed and some great tips on how to avoid using them ineffectively.

There are, what looks to be more than 50 contributors to this book. Virtually every page has a contribution from authors, educators and others that are involved in the world of writing. These insiders tips are very helpful; I was impressed at the amount of comfort that is felt through reading these personal experiences. The contributors’ willingness to admit errors, discuss
emotions and share their favorite resources is refreshing.

Readers will find lists of questions for them to use to define what their needs are and how they plan to reach society with their message. Find out if you need services, such as a professional full time publicist, and learn about alternatives that are available for you to consider. There is an excellent sample conversation in the chapter dealing with bookstores that will definitely be of service to readers.

In total there 208 pages in the print book which is a generous 8 x 10 book. It contains 16 chapters along with Appendices that offer extensive lists for review sites and best selling book sites. Book Promo 101 was released in March 2008 by Write Words Inc – an imprint of Cambridge books. (The ebook is standard size 5 x 8 and over 400 pages.)

The author, Nikki Leigh, has been involved in marketing businesses, books and web design for over 15 years. She has 4 novels and 4 non-fiction business books that are available for readers to investigate through their favorite bookseller. She also runs several bogs, offers virtual book tour services to her clients and facilitates classes in character development.
